365 GTB4

The 365 GTB4 berlinetta was the replacement for the 275 GTB4 model and, like so many new Ferrari models of the period, made its public debut at the Paris Motor Show, in the autumn of 1968. It almost immediately became known as the “Daytona”, although this was an unofficial title given by the media of the time, supposedly in recognition of the Ferrari 1-2-3 victory in the Daytona 24-Hour Race in 1967. However, the unofficial name has stuck, and continues to be widely used today.

The Daytona had an agressive form a long, wide, and sharp nose combined with a large expanse of bonnet  The body was designed by Pininfarina, and constructed by Scaglietti, normally in steel with aluminium doors, bonnet, and boot lid, although later in the production run the doors were changed to steel, and bracing struts provided within them for USA market examples.

The 4390cc longer-block V12 had a bore and stroke of 81mm x 71mm and dry sump lubrication. It was fitted with a bank of six twin-choke Weber 40 DCN20 or 21 carburettors, the USA market cars carrying the suffix “A”, with a twin coil and rear-of-engine mounted distributors and ignition system, with an electronic system fitted to USA market versions, to produce a claimed 352hp.

The engine drove through a flywheel-mounted clutch, via a shaft running at engine speed in a torque tube, to a five-speed transaxle mounted similarly to that of the 275 GTB4 model, and then by drive shafts to the independently suspended rear wheels, with wishbones, coil spring and hydraulic shock absorbers to each wheel.

We are expert in the model having carried out ground-up, bare-metal restorations on a number of Daytona's. We pride ourselves in preserving originality with many of our engineers being the first restorer of unmolested examples stretching back over the last thirty years.
