Ferrari 365 GTS4 History, Specifications and Spares | GTO Classic Ferrari Parts

Ferrari 365 GTS4

The 365 GTB/4 was the replacement for the 275 GTB/4 model and made its public debut at the Paris motor show in the autumn of 1968. It almost immediately became known as the “Daytona”, although this was unofficial, given by the media of the time, in recognition of the Ferrari 1-2-3 victory in the Daytona 24-Hour Race in 1967. However, the unofficial name stuck

Almost a year after its introduction, a spider version, the 365 GTS/4, was announced at the 1969 Frankfurt Show, which was visually identical from the waist down, only the folding roof and boot profile being different. The spider version proved to be extremely popular, particularly in the American market, and from the time of its introduction accounted for about 10 per cent of 365 GTB/4 model sales. Since then a number of Berlinetta have had the roof cut to be converted to the spider variant, this vogue being particularly popular in the late 1980s.

While there were many attempted conversions, four shops undertook the majority: Autokraft in England converted around 10 cars, Auto Sport in Modena converted about 25, Michael Sheehan’s European Auto completed 28 conversions and Richard Straman & Co. converted 35. A handful of cars completed by long forgotten shops meant there were a total of just over one hundred cut coupes.
